Standardized Tests

Our attitude towards standardized tests is simple: we wish that nobody had to take them. Some students naturally do well on standardized tests — lucky them! Others, though they may be good (even excellent) students, struggle to earn scores they can feel proud of. Standardized tests are stressful, they’re hard, and they don’t always do what they’re supposed to do: accurately measure a student’s abilities. Oblique question wording, outright trick questions, and excruciatingly long testing sessions are all reasons why we dislike standardized tests.

That is why the tutors at Abacus have not only learned how to master the tests themselves, but they’ve also had years of experience teaching students the techniques they need to know in order to de-fang the tests and earn scores commensurate with their abilities.

We believe that no student should be denied admission to a school because their test scores didn’t accurately reflect their level as a student. And we’ll work with your student to make sure that doesn’t happen.
